Bushwhacking:

A Writing and Adventure Retreat

Calling all adventurous writers…
and writerly adventurers!
April 28 – May 1, 2023

Under the guidance of Bushwhacking author Jennifer McGaha and Bold Bettie leader/Chemist in the Kitchen Gina Stewart, this retreat in the beautiful Burnsville, North Carolina will balance outdoor adventures with both informal and formal writing sessions and delicious meals carefully curated for you so that you can focus on your work.

The adventure portion of the weekend will include guided hikes and other activities tailored to meet the needs of the group. The writing component will focus on memoir writing and will include:

  • Guided generative writing sessions each morning
  • Daily free writing time
  • Writing workshops throughout the weekend
  • Informal readings/sharing around the campfire each evening
  • An individual manuscript critique/consultation of up to 25, double-spaced pages (must submit by April 1)

Our goal is for you to leave this retreat with useful feedback on a writing project in progress as well as drafts of new work generated around the theme of outdoor adventures.

We hope you will also leave with fond memories of treks in the woods, delightful dinners shared with new friends, and cozy evenings spent sharing your words and hearing the work of other writers and adventure seekers.
